On Saturday, May 15 at 10:00 a.m., Sussex County Habitat for Humanity (SCHFH) dedicated its 50th house. At that time, the N. Branchwood Place residence in Frankford became the home of Ricardo Alcaraz, Maria Martinez, and their two daughters, Ivanua and Arlyn.

The home, donated by Dr. David Fox from the Baltimore, MD area, was delivered to Frankford from its former site in Ocean City, MD last year. SCHFH AmeriCorps members, Maria, Ricardo, and local Sussex County Habitat for Humanity volunteers then renovated the home with the help of a Collegiate Challenge team, St. Joseph’s College, an all-girls Catholic school in Connecticut, and a group from Salisbury University.

Local contractors working on the Alcaraz-Martinez home made significant in-kind contributions to the completion of the home. They include: Gutters for Less, Jimco Electric, and Mike Edwards. Whirlpool also donated to the completion of the house.

Habitat for Humanity seeks families who currently reside in substandard living conditions and works along side of them to build a simple, decent, and affordable home with an interest-free mortgage. Habitat provides the potential homeowner with training designed to make them successful homeowners.
