What is A Brush with Kindness?
A Brush with Kindness is a program of Sussex County Habitat for Humanity that helps low-income homeowners by offering exterior home improvements. Volunteer teams work to improve the condition of homes by painting, landscaping, and performing minor exterior repairs at minimal costs to homeowners who would be unable to complete home repairs on their own. Able-bodied homeowners are encouraged to work alongside the volunteers in a cooperative effort. This program is for homeowners earning 60 percent or less of the median income (see Income Guidelines). Our ABWK program focuses on homes located in areas in which SCHFH is currently doing construction projects. What Work Do We Do?
ABWK focuses primarily on neighborhood beautification through the exterior painting, minor exterior repairs, and landscaping of homes. Labor is offered at no cost to homeowners. Materials are paid for by the homeowner through a good faith loan agreement. The scope of work is defined by ABWK and agreed on by both parties before the work begins. Our ABWK program has completed 18 projects in the last fiscal year.

Current ABWK Projects

The Greenwood Mennonite School Youth Group installed an exterior light, new skirting, and a gravel driveway on a mobile home in Selbeyville in January.

2011 Collegiate Challenge groups built a ramp for a mobile home in Millsboro.
