"Life is short, but sweet for certain" -Dave Matthews Band

What attracted you to join AmeriCorps and Habitat for Humanity?
I’ve been volunteering with Habitat for Humanity since high school. Working with Habitat through AmeriCorps seemed like the perfect opportunity to pursue a career in non-profits and make a noticeable difference in the community.

What do you expect to accomplish in your year of service with AmeriCorps?
1. Make friendships that last a lifetime
2. Learn how to build a house from the first nail to the last coat of paint.
3. Be a part of something that changes lives within a community.

What goals do you have after your service as an AmeriCorps member?
I'd like to join the Peace Corps or work for HFH in Atlanta, GA.

Over-thinker.  Awkward. Adventurously Expectant. (I know that’s technically 4 words, see 1st word for explanation)

“if you’re lucky enough to have something that makes you different from everybody else, don’t ever change!” – the one and only Taylor Swift

How do you plan on making a lasting impact on this affiliate?
Because of my local roots in Sussex County, I believe that I can inspire people who maybe have heard of SCHFH before but who haven’t had the opportunity to volunteer with us yet. I’d like to make lasting bonds that will encourage new volunteers to continue to participate on a regular basis.
What skills do you bring to your job, and what skills do you hope to learn to build your resume?
I think I bring many unique skills to the Volunteer Coordinator position.  I have been involved in many different activities through school and church while growing up giving me a voice to really stand up for the things I believe in. Working for SCHFH has reignited a passion for service in me that I truly believe is God’s plan for my life. I’d like to take my year of service with SCHFH and apply it to another non-profit organization in the future. Either with a Habitat location somewhere or a similar non-profit such as Appalachian Service Project.
What are you most excited about doing/experiencing this year?
This year I am most excited about working with other AmeriCorps, Volunteers and Partner Families in Georgetown. Because it’s my hometown I feel a strong sense of pride for the work we are doing in Georgetown Point. I am really anticipating watching the community grow and develop, not just with homes but with the new families that will be residing in them.

Sarcastic. Passionate. Dreamer.

“Can I share with you my worldview? All of humankind has one thing in common: the sandwich. I believe that all anyone really wants in this life is to sit in peace and eat a sandwich.” -Liz Lemon, 30 Rock

What attracted you to join AmeriCorps and Habitat for Humanity?
AmeriCorps is an amazing way to explore the country. There aren't many jobs that give you the invaluable opportunity to travel. I'm excited to putter around the east coast over the next year. I've always had a soft spot for Habitat. The first time I read the Marketing & Design job description, I knew I had to jump at the opportunity to work with Habitat. As a recent graduate, being able to utilize my degree within such an amazing organization is the best job I could have asked for.

What do you expect to accomplish in your year of service with AmeriCorps?
Through marketing and tasteful design, I hope to make Habitat a household name in Sussex County. The more people that know about us, the more families that we will be able to help. I really hope to get a good grasp on how a successful non-profit operates.

What goals do you have after your service as an AmeriCorps member?
I'd love to live in DC and continue working for Habitat, or another non-profit for a while. BUT I think the whole "not knowing where you'll be in a year" thing is one of the most attractive things about AmeriCorps.

Linda Williams, Family Services Coordinator, 2nd Year AmeriCorps
Hometown: Georgetown, DE College: Illinois State University Major: Elementary Education Masters Program: Christian Education at Union Theologica Seminary

Creative. Teacher. Servant.

What attracted you to join AmeriCorps and Habitat for Humanity?
I joined AmeriCorps because I felt a sense of call to ministry.  I have worked in churches for 20 years and have been looking for ways to do mission work outside the church.  Habitat for Humanity is an organization I have been familiar with,   and when I heard they were looking for a Volunteer Coordinator through AmeriCorps,  I had to respond.
I’m surprised and thankful that AmeriCorps doesn’t have a maximum age for members…
