Sussex County Habitat for Humanity houses are sold with no profit made. Homeowners contribute "sweat equity" and house payments are recycled to build additional houses.
How to Apply for a Home

  1. To qualify for a Sussex County Habitat for Humanity house you must live or work in Sussex County, have a need for housing, be able to pay a no-profit, no-interest mortgage in the approximate amount of $400 per month, and be willing to partner.

  2. The need for housing may be demonstrated by overcrowding, high rent, crime in the neighborhood, insect or rat infestation, inadequate water, electrical, heating or septic systems, unhealthy conditions, such as mold, or structural problems.

  3. The ability to pay the no-profit, no-interest mortgage is demonstrated by having gross income within the following guidelines:

  4. A successful applicant family must also be willing to fulfill all of the requirements related to being a Habitat partner family.  Some of these requirements are:
    • Investing 250 hours per adult in "sweat equity" building your own home and the homes of other Habitat partner families.
    • Paying up to $2,000 in closing cost for your home.
    • Attending homeownership preparation classes.
    • Learning about construction and home maintenance.
    • Being a good ambassador for Habitat in the community so this important work can continue.
