Upcoming Volunteer Dates (construction)
We welcome ReStore volunteers and customers to join us in the construction of "The House That ReStore Built." We will be on site on the following Thursdays: January 26, February 23 & March 29. Saturday, April 28 we will be doing finishing touches on the home. Check back for regular updates and pictures of the progress!

Job Descriptions

ReStore Cashier

Summary: Works in SC Habitat for Humanity ReStore and is responsible for the daily management of the cash register and assisting customers.  Training will be provided.

Reports to: ReStore manager

Duties
  • Greet all customers and give assistance as needed.
  • Be aware of any sales on merchandise; keep current with the inventory.
  • Operate cash register accurately
  • Keep the cashier area clean and tidy each day.
  • Be aware of store policies and volunteer guidelines.
  • Be able to answer questions about Habitat for Humanity and our mission to build affordable homes.

ReStore Lead Volunteer

ReStore Lead Volunteers play an integral role in the ReStore by actively greeting and helping customers, assuming responsibility for a department within the store and mentoring other volunteers.

Responsibilities
  • Assume an active and leading role in greeting and helping customers and educating them about the Sussex County Habitat, and the ReStore.
  • Take ownership of a department within the store and ensure that it's fully stocked, its displays are optimized, and its items are priced and marked down according to schedule.
  • Keep other volunteers engaged by helping to mentor and provide them with necessary instructions so they can complete tasks on your daily to-do list.
  • Provide feedback and suggestions for improving operations to ReStore Manager.
Training and Support
  • Prospective Lead Volunteers must first work as a Customer Service Volunteer for 3 - 4 shifts in order to become familiar with ReStore operations.
Qualifications
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Positive and friendly attitude and a love for interacting with people.
  • Ability to mullti-task.
  • Self-starter
  • Retail experience and/or a working knowledge of building materials and home accessories is helpful.

Customer Service

Summary: Works in Habitat for Humanity ReStore, responsible for assisting customers.

Reports to: ReStore manager or assigned Lead Volunteer.

Duties:

  • Greet all customers and assist as needed.
  • Assist Cashier
  • Package sold merchandise if assisting cashier.
  • Organize and display merchandise; dust and sweep when needed.
  • Assist customers out the door with purchases if able.
  • Assist donation receiving volunteer or other volunteers as assigned.
  • Be aware of store policies and volunteer guidelines.

Inventory Receiving Volunteer

Summary: Works in SC Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and is responsible for acceptance of donations and assisting customers.

Reports to: ReStore manager or assigned volunteer.

Duties

  • Screen items for donation according to guidelines when people arrive without first calling.
  • Assist customers with unloading of items donated.   Only volunteers qualified by manager may lift items.
  • Assist customers as needed; know prices and new inventory; ask questions or look around the store.
  • Clean, price (according to pricing guidelines) and place items in proper area as soon as possible.
  • Be aware of store policies and volunteer guidelines.
Job requirements:
Must be able to lift at lest 30 pounds.
Must have basic understanding of building materials.

Pricing Volunteer

Reports to: ReStore manager

Summary: Works in the SC Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and is responsible for pricing new merchandise.

Duties:

  • Clean and price new merchandise according to pricing guidelines.
  • Check condition and working order of items before pricing.
  • Organize merchandise on shelves.
  • Assist donation intake volunteer andother volunteers as able.

Delivery Volunteer

Reports to: ReStore manager

Summary: Works in Habitat for Humanity ReStore, responsible for picking up donations.

Duties

  • Drive ReStore truck to pick up donated goods.
  • Load and unload donations in proper area.
  • Maintain truck usage log:

Qualifications or special skills needed:

DRIVER LICENSE/GOOD DRIVING RECORD

Training provided:
New drivers will ride with driving trainer at least twice, and then drive with the trainer at least three times.  Only then, and with the agreement of the trainer and the ReStore Manager will permission be given for the Trainee to drive independantly.

Job Requirements:
Must be 21, have a good driving record, and proof of insurance.  Must have driving test approved by store manager.  Driver must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand, squat, bend and climb in and out of truck.  Drivers may be required to submit to a random drug test.

*If using personal vehicle, Habitat ReStore is not responsible for damage to the vehicle.

Coordinator of Donations and Scheduling

Reports to: ReStore manager

Summary: Responsible for coordinating receipt of donations and scheduling pick-ups

  • Schedule pick-ups - confirm with donor and schedule with driver.
  • Return donor calls.
  • Oranize pickups by location/area.
  • Screen items according to donation guidelines.

Data Entry

Reports to: ReStore manager

Summary: Works in SC Habitat for Humanity ReStore Office and is responsible for performing updates on various databases that support ReStore Administration

Duties

  • Post hours served to Volunteer Hours database.
  • Generate monthly reports of Volunteer Hours.
  • Post donor information to ReStore Contact database.
  • Generate mailing lists and address labels for mailings to donors.
  • Be aware of store policies and volunteer guidelines.
  • Be able to answer questions about Habitat for Humanity and our mission to build affordable homes.

Webmaster

Reports to: ReStore manager

Summary: Works in SC Habitat for Humanity ReStore Office and is responsible for performing updates to the ReStore web page.

Duties

  • Regularly review the content of the ReStore web pages for the purpose of:
    • Ensuring currency and accuracy of the information presented.
    • Creating additional content to present ReStore achievements and to promote ReStore programs
    • Developing ways to present the information in an interesting and attractive manner.
  • Be aware of store policies and volunteer guidelines.
  • Be able to answer questions about Habitat for Humanity and our mission to build affordable homes.
