Sussex County Habitat for Humanity is a Christian organization and welcomes volunteers from all faiths who are committed to Habitat's goal of eliminating poverty housing.
Volunteer

Sussex County Habitat for Humanity is a volunteer-driven organization. We welcome people from all walks of life to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with God and families in need. Though the vast majority of our volunteers have no construction experience or building skills, volunteers are involved in most phases of construction. By working side-by-side with families who will live in the house, our volunteers experience for themselves the joy created when people are able to realize their dreams of homeownership.

Habitat volunteers contribute more than muscle. Creativity, strategy, and technical skills are among the many invaluable traits volunteers bring to the organization. With a minimal staff, Sussex County Habitat depends upon volunteer committees for support with projects like Family Services, Public Relations, Resource Development, Faith Relations, and Construction. We also offer opportunities in our SCHFH ReStore, a building materials resale center that relies heavily on volunteers.

We invite volunteers to help us build, work in the SCHFH ReStore, assist at community events, serve on committees, and help with special projects that benefit the organization. Time commitments vary; some volunteers dedicate every day of the week to Sussex County Habitat and others spend just a few hours each month working on projects or in the SCHFH ReStore. As a volunteer for Sussex County Habitat, you can choose to volunteer as little or as often as you would like. All of these positions are a tremendous help that combine to produce the end result of simple, decent, and affordable homes in Sussex County.

March's Volunteer of the Month:
Group Builds
Collegiate Challenge Teams

More than 50 students from Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Virginia will volunteer with Sussex County Habitat for Humanity (SCHFH) during their spring break. The youth volunteers are participants of Collegiate Challenge, Habitat for Humanity’s year round alternative break program.  From February 28 to March 20, students from George Mason University, Immaculata University, and St. Joseph’s College will help build a SCHFH duplex in Laurel.  SCHFH duplexes are a two story design that will house two different low-income families in need.
