Sussex County Habitat for Humanity houses are sold with no profit made. Homeowners contribute "sweat equity" and house payments are recycled to build additional houses.

Sussex County Habitat For Humanity offers volunteer opportunities for you to help with all aspects of home building.  We have both construction and non-construction volunteer opportunities available to you. You do not need to be an expert in construction to help out on a work site. There are many tasks that require only a willingness to learn and work with others. On-site construction work is the most popular of Habitat's volunteer opportunities. We make every effort to incorporate all willing volunteers regardless of skill level. To participate in active construction, volunteers must be at least 16 years of age or older. We are able to schedule younger volunteers to assist with landscaping, painting and other similar projects.

Becoming a construction volunteer with Sussex County Habitat is simple!
1.  Sign up!
You must register in advance. Click on the green button to the right to register to volunteer.
Due to safety concerns and group size limits, no "walk in" volunteers are allowed on site.  Individual volunteers must receive a confirmation e-mail to participate at build sites.
2.  Show up! Please arrive by 9:00am and be ready to work the entire day. You should bring sturdy shoes and clothes that can get dirty.  We have all the tools you'll need on site as well as drinking water.  Often church and community groups support us with lunch donations; you will be notified by email if lunch is being provided.  Otherwise, do pack a lunch.)

When you arrive at the work site, you'll be asked to sign in for the day, provide an emergency contact and phone number, and to sign a volunteer waiver as a first-time volunteer. We start the day with a welcome and a morning prayer, and then you'll get to work! Click here to print out a copy of the volunteer waiver. Click here for a copy of our safety guidelines.

Please note: Volunteers under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian fill out the Click here before arriving on site. Please visit our Youth Activities  page for more information.

We will usually work rain or shine, but if the weather forecast looks questionable, please call 855-1153 anytime after 7:00am on the day of construction.  The answering message will be changed to either confirm or cancel construction.

We use the information you provide in the Registration to help you determine where your skill would best help us, or to provide you with information on available volunteer opportunities so you can choose where you would like to help out. The information you provide to us is never shared with any other organization or company. Please review our Privacy Policy on this website for additional information.
