ReStore

Thanks to all who made our Grand Opening a success!
The SCHFH ReStore is a resale center for building materials, home fixtures, appliances, tools, furniture, and household items.  The  proceeds from the ReStore go directly into the construction of more simple, decent, and affordable homes for Sussex County families.  The ReStore will accept donations of new and “gently used” surplus building materials, fixtures, furniture, appliances, tools and other items and offer them to the public at bargain prices: 50 percent or more below retail!

Additionally, the ReStore serves society and the environment by reducing the resources consumed and by minimizing waste in landfills.  For builders and contractors, landfill disposal costs are reduced.

“The ReStore is a tremendous opportunity for retail and wholesale merchants, manufacturers, building supply stores, contractors, demolition crews, and individuals who wish to show their support for Habitat," explained Jeff Joseph, ReStore Committee Chairperson.

“There are additional economic incentives for donors.  Donors can use the value of their donations to the ReStore as tax donations," added Kevin Gilmore, Executive Director of Sussex County Habitat for Humanity.  “The ReStore is an outlet for local retail businesses as it will provide a way for them to contribute home improvement materials they cannot sell in return for tax deductions, therefore gaining some value from the materials. And the ReStore promotes recycling of useable materials.”

We are currently accepting donations, and volunteers are needed to assist with pick-ups and driving. Within the store, volunteers are needed as Cashiers, in Customer Service, and for Warehouse & Inventory Support.  Volunteers can sign up for these shifts online.

Many thanks to the Chichester duPont Foundation for their generous grant providing start-up funding and allowing all profits to be channeled directly into additional home construction.
We would also like to thank the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control (DNREC) for providing funding for the ReStore box truck and other equipment, and the Carl M. Freeman Foundation for the FACES grant that allowed for additional operating equipment.
