Expand Sussex County Habitat builds weekly from Tuesday through Saturday What is the age requirement to volunteer on a work site? Expand Volunteers must be at least 18 years old to be on an active jobsite. Those under 18 who wish to volunteer must be approved by SCHFH staff. What should I bring with me to volunteer? Expand Hand tools (no power tools), tool belt, safety glasses, safety gloves (these items are not required but you may bring your own if you prefer not to use Habitat's stock Snacks and lunch for yourself; a refillable water bottle. What should I wear? Expand Work boots or sturdy sneakers (other types of shoes not permitted on site) Long pants or jeans are recommended; knee-length shorts permitted No lose clothing or jewelry Hats, sunglasses, sunscreen are all recommended Note: You could get dirty, dusty, or paint on clothing so please dress appropriately. What time should I arrive to the worksite, and how long do we work? Expand Please arrive in time to get checked in and attend the opening circle which begins at 8:30am. There will be a 30 minute lunch break around noon and the build day will end at around 3:00pm Do I need to have prior construction experience? Expand No! Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome. We have skilled staff and volunteer leaders on site to explain and supervise each task. If you are not comfortable with a task, you can simply ask to do something else.
